About the NSW Racehorse Owners’ Association

The NSW Racehorse Owners Association held its inaugural meeting at the Tattersalls Club in Sydney on 27th August, 1965.

A non-profit organisation, it is run by a volunteer committee with an enthusiasm for horse racing and ownership.

Interestingly, as a copy of the letter advising of the inaugural meeting (below) shows, one of the NSWROA’s founding board members was Dr Percy Sykes, one of Australia’s best known and respected equine and racing veterinarians and Tommy Smith’s no.1 vet for 30 years.

This photo (left) shows Dr Sykes with a statue of himself located at Arrowfield Stud, Scone.

Dr Sykes (OA) passed away in 2014 at the age of 93 years.
